The British Home events always involve the residents, local community, entertainment, deliciously prepared food to please the gastronome and plenty of it.
Quarterly events for residents and their families are gleefully planned with close attention to menu selection (keeping up with the food theme here) and entertainment. Over time these lovely moments result in not only our residents forming friendships but entire families doing so.
The other big favorite is the November Ingathering Tea on the campus Green which began as a way of thanking the DBE and the neighborhood for putting up with us. And yes, the neighborhood, with the wonderful people who are so relieved the Manzanita Avenue front landscape project is completed and real estate values on the avenue are on the up and up again. The British Home’s June Faire serves a splendid, proper English Tea and the former colonials love it. Proper sandwiches, dear wee tarts filled with homemade Lemon Curd, and the scones; oh, the scones, who knew they were indispensable to one’s diet.
A donation of $15.00 per person is Requested.

Elegant, aptly describes the Annual Resident’s Christmas Dinner, such a perfectly, delectable, traditional evening and all gussied up. Of course, Santa never forgets to arrive in splendid form, bearing a huge bag full of gifts wrapped with love. Amazingly he recalls everyone’s name and seems to be well informed of all the goings on over the past twelve months. A magical evening for all, even if you’ve been naughty.
Naturally, the program does not end with December; no, there’s New Year’s Eve to look forward to and Twelfth Night, for goodness sake, right here in this little hidden gem on a hill, full of huge hearts.
Please note, our Annual Christmas dinner is by invitation only.
The Annual Resident’s Birthday Dinner is another grand, epicurean indulgence when all the residents’ birthdays are celebrated at the same time. This particular evening event is held on campus in Armstrong Hall a beautiful venue for our residents and reminder of how elegant senior living can be, residing at The British Home.
The June Faire event will be held on the first Saturday of June.
June Faire, the English Country Faire at The British Home is one of the highlights of the year for the residents, DBE, the neighborhood & beyond. June 1949 saw the first “Annual Garden Tea and Fair” now called “June Faire” which to this day highlights all things British; good and bad. A wonderful day with more food, bangers and buns, Irish Dancers, Scottish Dancers and you guessed it, English Dancers, the ones wearing the bells strapped to their lower legs. Fabulous. And by days end everyone’s so tired they’re almost delirious. Wonderful day; we’re lucky it’s only once a year.
